Mon, 04 Apr 2024 18:59:08 GMT Well, I'm a long term Apple user and by and large I've been happy with my apple laptops and iPads etc, and I picked up an iPad pro not long after launch and absolutely loved it. So much in fact that with a logitech keyboard case, I have been doing probably 90% of my computing on it.

And there's the bomb. 90%, not 100%. I still had to get the laptop out for some things that iOS wouldn't do. A desktop class processor and screen and keyboard but not a desktop OS and it's bugged me since I thought of it. The microsoft surface has interested me for the exact same reason. As much as I dislike windows, a proper desktop OS in a tablet, with proper connectivity seemed to tick all the boxes.

So, today I bit the bullet and picked up a Surface pro 4 with a view to it replacing my iPad pro AND my Macbook. I have no idea if it will succeed but I had to give it a go.

This is unless Apple release a touch screen MacBook, but I think that may be a way off...

Help Laptop ZIF Connector replacement Fri, 01 Apr 2024 14:44:19 GMT A client has asked me to have a look at his laptop and replace the keyboard... Easy enough, ordered the keyboard. Still the same symptoms.

On closer inspection, the ZIF Connector is missing a few pins. The result of Orange being spilt on it. Being acidic, it's literally eaten away the metal pin!!

Easy to replace? Cheaper to replace mainboard?

Found the board for 119 and the laptop new was 250. The board is a ZS051 LA-A996P. Other than this, it's perfect and less than a year old.

Help Strange HDD Problem Wed, 30 Mar 2024 19:05:25 GMT I've got a Green WD 2TB that is formatted to NTFS. After about 1 day of use (approx), for no reason whatsoever, it changes to RAW, yet all the files are unusable. Windows recognises it as NTFS still in Windows Explorer, but CHKDSK says it can't check it because its RAW.

After a reboot all is fine again for another day.

I've checked the disk after a clean reboot and checked the drive with HDD Sentinel that explains its "PERFECT".

Clearly a file system problem and I'm considering reformatting it to FAT32 to see if the problem persists.

Anyone every come across anything like this and did you solve it?
Only happens with one of my drives. The others are fine.

Any suggestions? ]]>
