Default Increased Broadband Speed - Unexpected.

Only just moved to BT infinity 2 from another Fibre provider. Same package e.g. The Max 78MB down 20MB up.

Tonight I have been getting 90MB down ?!?!?! WTF Are BT doing some testing ready for INF 3 or something.

No I didnt do a speedtest but was downloading Very large files between my Webserver on a GB connection and Home (where my BT connection is) and could see the actual KB coming in
Also tried a torrent and a newsbin and for a while was getting just over 90MB

Anyone else had this or maybe was just a glitch. I did hear in the rumour mill BT 120MB coming soon.

Quite likely; when I was getting 20Mbps from VM back in the day they were running tests and my internet went up to 300Mbps for around 4-5 hours.

Are you sure the speed is being reported correctly by your software? How far are you from the street cabinet? The copper from the street cabinet to the house is always going to be a limiting factor so in my opinion unless the cabinet is on your doorstep you are unlikely to get more than 78MB.

I know BT are experimenting with something called FTTdp (Fibre To The distribution point) which means extending the fibre to the telegraph pole nearer the house or, in cases where the lines coming into the house are underground, to the underground junction 'footway' boxes. Higher frequencies are then used in combination with improved crosstalk cancellation techniques to achieve speeds of around 800Mbps over the remaining 20 metres or so to premises. This speed falls off the further you are from the telegraph pole or footway box supplying your connection. (">

Add to the fact that you at 78mbps the overheads on DSL are quite high I wouldn't expect you to reach the full 78...

Was deffo something going on. It spiked to over 200 then went back to normal. I live about 30 metres from Cabinet so have easily achieved 78ish for years now.
